U Drive Mobility
Unique Total Access Vehicle Range

Base Design Criteria

U Drive Mobility (NZ) Ltd, design and manufacture a competitively priced unique range of Drive from wheelchair access vehicles without compromising the original manufacturers design. Utilizing sophisticated hi-tech alloy composite and carbon fiber structures that are light, strong, and non corrosive, the space envelope within the donor vehicle dimension is maximized without compromising the original structure or load carrying specification.

All U Drive Mobility wheelchair access vehicles (WAV) and Drive from Wheelchair access vehicles (D/WAV) must operate with both multiple wheelchair and interchangeable ambulant driver/passenger ability, fit in a conventional garage (2m max height), and in a conventional parking space, allowing total transport freedom.
All access and locking functions are operated automatically by remote control, allowing total operational independence for wheelchair drivers. To contain costs a manual access system can be retained for those wheelchair users who require a front passenger wheelchair position, with the vehicle operation by carer/driver.

The vehicles exterior and interior appearance and function remain as close to the original unmodified vehicle as possible with minimal exterior clue as to designated use, and the original handling, and NVH abilities are retained without compromise, for optimal operational performance.

Vehicle Support

All new U Drive Mobility vehicles are sourced within the Volkswagen group range of products, (Audi/VW/Skoda dealers) and are warranted for 3 years with road side assistance and national domestic dealer service and parts support.
All U Drive Mobility vehicles are manufactured with LVVTA certification, and comply with all NZ registration requirements and are equipped with the same components and design features to allow simple parts sourcing and competitive cost.

Dimensional Criteria

In order to reduce costs and provide a competitive product with short lead times it is essential that U Drive Mobility design to standard dimensions that eliminate the requirement for expensive custom builds. To this end ALL U Drive Mobility vehicles are manufactured with a wheelchair station design envelope that encompasses the following dimensions:

  • Access ramp and floor well track width 750mm
    • Ramp rated weight 350Kg
    • Single ramp length 950mm slope 1:7
    • Entry clearance height 1450mm

  • Wheelchair station, ALL front passenger, front driver, central, or rear positions
    • Width 750mm at floor
    • Width 800mm at W/chair armrest
    • Length 1200mm, 1300mm extended W/chair footrest
    • Hard floor to hard roof height 1450mm

All U Drive Mobility D/WAV vehicles have folding or removable wheeled passenger seats to allow Wheelchair access, and removable/interchangeable wheeled front seats with false floor for ambulant passengers and driver. Both front seats can be interchanged for wheelchairs to replace a tired wheelchair driver with an ambulant driver during a journey. UDM fit 3 point automatic EZlock or lockdown strap options to suit. All D/WAV’s are available with adjustable power steering assistance, tuned parking radar to ramp extension, night and hazard loading lights, and Cullen radial hand control options.

Custom Requests

Other options and dimensional envelope requirements can be either modified in house or added to the basic vehicle aftermarket. A wide range of driver aids such as rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, parking sensors, cruise control, and bluetooth voice command are standard on Skoda Yeti, and together with rear parking camera and touch screen controls are optional on some VW models. 4 wheel drive and ride height adjusting air suspension are optional on the VW transporter long and short wheelbase models.
